Antitrust laws and AI Tech Firms
Microsoft has found a unique way to get around antitrust competitive laws. Wow they have lawyers working overtime in this space (and lots of money). For example with Mistral (France), they entered into a multi-year partnership. With Open AI – it began as barter – maybe worth US$ 13 billion and now includes “profit sharing”. Finally in March 2024, they had a deal with Inflection.ai (USA) where they spent “$620m for non-exclusive licensing fees for the technology, as well as $30m to ensure the now much smaller Inflection will not sue over Microsoft hiring its staff.” Microsoft hired the CEO of Infection.AI (founder of Deep Minds (UK), and other key employees. Microsoft gets in early as a funder. Do look at Nvidia too.
